Acne scars can change how you feel about your skin long after breakouts have calmed. We see this often at Lumina Aesthetics: clients who keep their skin carefully, yet still feel that texture or marks draw the eye.
While we do not diagnose or medically treat active acne—that is the role of a dermatologist—we do offer treatments that can improve how old acne scars and post-acne marks look on the surface.
Microneedling for Texture and Shallow Scars
Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This can support collagen and gradually soften the look of:
- shallow acne scars
- uneven or rough texture
- enlarged-looking pores
Many clients benefit from a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. We adjust depth and technique based on your skin type and tolerance. The goal is subtle, progressive improvement—not an overnight transformation.
Chemical Peels for Tone and Post-Acne Marks
Chemical peels can help with:
- uneven tone and post-inflammatory marks
- mild textural irregularities
By exfoliating the upper layers of skin and encouraging turnover, peels can gradually brighten and smooth the surface. Depth and type of peel depend on your skin and history; we are conservative, especially with sensitive or deeper skin tones.
Laser and Light-Based Options
For some clients, laser or light-based treatments may be appropriate to refine texture or redness related to old acne. Candidacy depends heavily on skin type, scar pattern, and tolerance for downtime.
At Lumina, we:
- assess your skin in person
- discuss what you have tried and how you healed
- explain which laser or light options we believe are safe for you, if any
Why a Personalized Plan Matters
No single approach works for every scar type or skin tone. Boxcar, rolling, and ice-pick scars all behave differently. So do red marks versus brown discoloration.
That is why we start with a consultation rather than a pre-set package. We may recommend:
- a course of microneedling alone
- peels first, then needling
- a referral to a dermatologist for deeper or more complex scarring
Sometimes, the most responsible answer is that an in-clinic skincare approach will help only to a point, and more advanced medical procedures may be needed for further change.
Setting Expectations
Acne scar treatment is about improvement, not erasing the past. Results are gradual. Multiple sessions are usually needed. We will:
- outline a realistic timeline
- review downtime and aftercare
- check in along the way and adjust as needed
We do not guarantee a specific percentage of improvement. Instead, we partner with you to pursue what is realistically achievable for your skin, within a plan you feel comfortable following.
