How Long Does Botox Last?

3 min read

If you are considering Botox-type treatment for the first time, it is natural to wonder how long the results will last. The honest answer is: it depends—but there is a typical range we talk about with almost every client.

The Usual Timeline

After treatment, you will not see the full effect immediately. Most people notice early softening within a few days. The peak result is usually around 10–14 days after injection. From there, the effect gradually fades as the body breaks down the medication and muscle activity returns.

For many clients, that means:

  • onset: a few days
  • peak effect: about 2 weeks
  • typical duration: around 3–4 months

Some people come back a little sooner; some can comfortably wait longer. We never promise a precise date when movement will return—we give you a realistic window based on experience.

What Influences How Long It Lasts

Several factors can affect duration:

  • Muscle strength and movement patterns — Stronger, more active muscles may metabolize the product faster.
  • Area treated — Forehead and frown lines can behave differently from crow’s feet.
  • Dose and technique — Higher doses may last longer, but we balance that with the goal of natural movement.
  • Individual metabolism — Everyone’s body processes medications at a slightly different pace.

Consistency can also matter. Some clients find that with regular treatments over time, lines are less deep and they can stay on a more comfortable maintenance schedule.

How We Plan Maintenance at Lumina

During your consultation we will:

  • explain a realistic timeline for your specific treatment and areas
  • suggest a follow-up window (often around three to four months)
  • encourage you to return when you see enough movement that it bothers you again

Many clients book their next appointment before leaving so they have options on the calendar. You are always free to adjust the date if life or budget requires it.

Why Temporary Can Be a Good Thing

The temporary nature of neuromodulators is not a drawback—it is part of what keeps results flexible. If you ever want to change your dosing, target different areas, or take a break, we can adapt. Our role is to help you understand the rhythm that fits your face, schedule, and goals without overselling longevity.
