Which Treatments Have the Least Downtime?

4 min read

Many of our clients in Raleigh juggle work, family, and travel. They want to feel a bit more polished, but they cannot disappear for a week to recover. The good news: not every treatment comes with heavy downtime.

Below is a practical look at low-downtime options at Lumina—and a few that require more planning.

Neuromodulators (Botox-Type)

Neuromodulator appointments are typically quick, and downtime is minimal. You may notice:

  • tiny bumps at injection sites for a short period
  • rare, mild bruising

We ask you to avoid rubbing the area, lying flat for a few hours, and strenuous exercise for about 24 hours. Most people return to work and social activities immediately without anyone noticing anything beyond a slight flush.

Hydrafacial and Light Facials

Hydrafacial and certain light facials are designed to be event-friendly. After treatment, you might see:

  • a healthy glow
  • mild pinkness that fades within hours

Makeup and normal activities are usually fine the same day. Many clients schedule these a few days before a wedding, photos, or travel.

Light Chemical Peels

Not all peels mean heavy peeling. Light peels may cause:

  • mild flaking or dryness
  • subtle redness for a day or two

You can often work through this with good skincare and sunscreen. Deeper peels are a different category and do require more recovery—we will be very clear about which type we are recommending.

What Requires More Downtime

Some treatments simply ask for more patience:

  • Filler — swelling and bruising can be visible for several days.
  • Microneedling — redness and sensitivity can last a few days, occasionally longer.
  • Certain lasers — depending on settings, you may experience peeling or more intense redness.

These are not “bad” treatments; they just need to be timed thoughtfully.

Planning Around Real Life

If you have a fixed date—an important meeting, family photos, a wedding—tell us. As a general rule:

  • injectables: we prefer at least two weeks before a big event
  • facials / Hydrafacial: a few days to a week before
  • peels / microneedling / laser: at least one to two weeks, sometimes longer depending on intensity

At your consultation, we will start with your calendar and build a plan backwards from your date. The point is not just to do the treatment; it is to help you look your best at the right time without unnecessary stress.
